Product Prioritization

One of the most important skills that can differentiate a product manager from others is his/her ability to organize and prioritize his own backlog.

An I will write my opinion about that, I will talk about the most well known and used prioritization methodologies and then will tell you my opinion about that based on a discussion happened between me and several PMs in Jordan.

First of all, so many people and especially the people who are new the product management world asked me an important question,

How can I build my backlog, what are the main resources that help me as a product manager in building my backlog?

And here are the main resources from my opinion:

  1. From the competitors and other same field companies(studying, analyzing and customization).
  2. From the users’ feedback and research.( try to understand what the real user pain, and remember that if we asked pre-cars people what they want, they will ask tell you that they want a faster hours not a car)
  3. Trends following/ market need. ( like social media connected apps and apps stories BUT you should validate before take your decision in moving foreword in any feature )
  4. Internal Idealization. (Team, team and team --> try your best to open an open channel between you and the team around you)
  5. Business requirements with product touches.
  6. Data reading and understanding.

So, let’s get started with the most will known prioritization techniques
