UTM - Track and know what happens in your Email

SO, It's all the thing started when my manager Ossamah, Asked me to refresh the email templates that automatically sent to our clients.

Backthen, I did all the need from doing the research to find the best design to find a new feature to add to our emails (Announcements feature) to upgrading the content, text and CTAs ....etc.

But, One thing was needed to be solved, and this thing is how to track and know how the user engaged with the email (if he opens it, what CTA he clicks on, if he clicks the email CTA how should we know that he came from this email or another..)

I did some research about that and asked my friend Ahmad Hammad, and discovered the UTM thing, which is an additional texts that added to the CTAs links that is automatically identified from Google Analytics to analyse what happens in the email.

These texts are mainly:

  • Campaign: The main group or title of the email/notification (20Discount/Welcome email/20percentpromocode ....)
  • Source: parameter can tell you which website is sending you traffic, for example: Facebook, inhouse, AutomatedEmails.
  • Medium: The big picture of the source, the source main category (Example: Social media, Notification center Emails ... etc).
  • Content: It's mainly used by me to identify the CTA type (Hyperlink, button ...etc)
  • Term/Keyword: gives more info about the link, for example (MarketingSoftware, AR , EN ..etc)

And I did a cool auto generated UTMs IN THIS FILE and I used it with more customization based on what I want to used it for....
